James McClean: 'Proud' to be diagnosed with autism

Republic of Ireland and Wigan Athletic winger James McClean has revealed he was diagnosed with autism last year.

The 33-year-old, who has 95 caps for his country, said he wanted to share his diagnosis to help others who may be struggling.

"I was diagnosed with autism last year and it was a relief to finally know what was going on," McClean told BBC Sport.

"I have always struggled with social interaction and I have always been a bit different, but I never really knew why.

"Now I know and I am proud of who I am. I hope that by speaking out, I can help others who may be struggling with autism.
